Questions 56 - 60 are based on the following passage:
Indigestion is a symptom and not a disease. It occurs frequently in those of a dyspeptic nature who are often highly-strung, sensitive people. In their well- intentioned wish to please others, and succeed in what they are doing, they create anxieties for themselves and overstimulate their gastric juices. In turn, the highly acid digestive juices irritate the lining of the stomach, duodenum and sometimes the lower gullet (esophagus). The normal protective coating of mucus seems to be diminished at these times. Whilst those of a dyspeptic nature suffer often, it is a symptom that most people will have experienced at least once after eating too quickly or drinking too much. Indigestion is commonly felt just below and behind the breast bone. It takes many forms: a burning discomfort, pain or a feeling of fullness. It may come on between meals and be a gnawing ache that is relieved by food. It may come with or after meals. We suffer from indigestion because we bottle up worry and frustration. Modern living does not allow us to either fight it out or run to release tensions; as our more primitive ancestors could when they lived in caves. That is what our bodies "expect" us to do, so when we cannot have this physical release we get a variety of symptoms. Your doctor knows this and will probably say that you should change your stressful way of life in order to lose your symptoms. He will explain that your early morning cigarette -- in fact all your cigarettes -- will irritate your stomach lining and make you prone to inflammation and ulcers (not to mention the effects it has on your heart and lungs) and will tell you to give them up. He will advise you about regular meals, taken leisurely and will tell you not to drink too much alcohol especially on an empty stomach. 56. Which ofthe following is one form of indigestion ? A.
